About Professor Emeritus James Stevens Curl - Full-Time Employment in Education

Senior Lecturer, Leicester School of Architecture, 1978-87. Subject Leader, History of Architecture, tutor in urban history, and studio instructor. Course Leader, Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Architectural Building Conservation from 1982. Member of Examination Boards and Boards of Study. Responsible for running of option courses, supervision of MPhil/PhD students, teaching of architectural history to students in other schools, running lecture courses at Vaughan College for the University of Leicester Adult Education Department, sitting on Faculty Boards, carrying out and supervising research, organising of study-visits in the UK and abroad, counselling of students both as personal tutor and as Resident Tutor (1978-84), organising Year 3 of the BA (Hons) Architecture Degree Course (including working with distinguished London practitioners), and developing Courses across the whole range of studies
Appointed Professor of Architectural History in the Department of Architecture within the new School of the Built Environment, De Montfort University, Leicester, 1988. Co-Ordinator of the History of Architecture subject for the BA (Hons) and Part-Time BA Courses in Architecture. Co-Ordinator of Dissertations at Postgraduate level. Co-Ordinator of Subject Options. Director of Studies for Postgraduates reading for MPhil/PhD degrees. Contributor to the creation of the new MA in Architectural Building Conservation, and tutor in the subject-area of English Building Styles
Appointed Research Professor in the Centre for Conservation Studies, September 1994. Responsible for maintaining a high level and quality of research output, encouraging others in the sharing of research outputs, seeking support for and maintaining a supervision portfolio for PhD students, undertaking teaching in the School of the Built Environment, De Montfort University, Leicester, and generating external monies to help to support the Centre. Retired from full-time work in January 1998, and appointed Emeritus Professor and Senior Research Fellow from 1998 in the Faculty of Art and Design, De Montfort University, Leicester
Appointed Professor of Architectural History and Senior Research Fellow, The Queen’s University of Belfast, from March 2000
On reaching retirement-age, appointed Honorary Senior Research Fellow, The Queen’s University of Belfast, 2002

Reverted to title of Professor Emeritus from 2005
