Please download Java(tm). Professor Emeritus James Stevens Curl is Honorary Research Fellow at The Queen's University of Belfast. He read for his Doctorate at University College London, and in 1991-2 and 2002 was Visiting Fellow at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge.

New (July 2009) - A new gallery section featuring some of Curl's drawings, paintings, and sketches has been added, together with a small entry on his designs for memorials. His graphic works have often been admired as much as his elegant prose, and many of them have been published, but, apart from line-drawings prepared specifically for his publications, he has also produced many water-colours as well as design-drawings and satirical works. Many of these last-mentioned examples of his pen-and-ink designs often have a critical purpose, attacking certain aspects of life and attitudes he finds offensive, and his barbs have not been without effect. To view a selection click on the Gallery link on the menu above or click here.

He has established an international reputation for scholarship, lucidity of style, and thorough investigations in little-known fields of research.

His many books include:

He is a Fellow of The Society of Antiquaries of London, a Fellow of The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, and a Liveryman of the City of London.
